Events Internship

Overview of Internship

The intern will assist in execution of Foodwise’s major fundraising events. The internship will primarily focus on planning and execution of events with projects mutually agreed upon by Foodwise and the intern. Examples of such projects may include but are not limited to: 

  • Raffle organization and execution
  • Auction solicitation and execution
  • Event registration
  • Creation of promotional materials
  • Communication with event attendees
  • Beverage donation solicitation
  • Event promotion and outreach
  • Donor database input
  • Restaurant collateral and social media tool kit delivery

Internship Learning Objectives

  • Individually responsible for planning and execution of one major project for the event
  • Learn how events fit within a fundraising matrix for nonprofit success and donor engagement
  • Learn how to organize and execute major fundraising events integral to a non-profit’s success
  • Understand “big picture” planning as well as the small details necessary to make events a success
  • Develop team strategy by working with the Partnerships & Events Manager
  • Create production timelines and goals
  • Gain nonprofit communications experience
  • Learn about sustainable agriculture, farmers markets, and local food access

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong written communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience a plus
  • Strong interest in sustainable food and agriculture

Hours and Duration of Internship

  • Approximately three months in Summer or Fall
  • Approximately 18-24 hours a week at the Foodwise office at San Francisco’s Ferry Building, farmers markets, or fundraising events; specific hours to be agreed upon
  • Days off or schedule changes may be arranged as agreed upon by the intern and Foodwise

Terms of Internship

The intern reports to Foodwise’s Partnerships & Events Manager. Foodwise will provide training as needed and will fulfill the intern’s learning objectives while also meeting the organization’s goals. Foodwise will provide performance feedback at the midpoint and at the completion of the internship.

Interns will receive a stipend of about $100 per week (about $1,250 total), in addition to the option of receiving academic credit. In this position, you’ll learn about sustainable food systems, become familiar with the farmers market, and experience the nonprofit working environment.
