Aisan Hoss, Oyna Natural Foods
Saturday, March 17, 2018, 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm
Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and highlighting one of our market sellers.
Mehdi and Aisan of Oyna Natural Foods immigrated to the United States in 2013 to pursue Aisan’s passion for dance. Oyna means to dance in Azeri language, spoken northwest of Iran—Azerbaijan province, where both parents of the founders are from originally. They love food from different cultures and are on a mission to introduce more of Persian cuisine to the United States, starting with kukus.
Kuku is a savory, baked vegetable and egg dish with less egg than quiche or frittata. Oyna Natural Foods offers four varieties of kukus. One of them is Sabzi, the signature kuku of Iran, made with four different types of herbs. Spinach, potato, and veggie are the other three varieties. The kukus are paired with two sauces sold in jars: garlic-yogurt sauce and mint-parsley sauce.
Oyna Natural Foods is part of La Cocina’s food business incubator program. The kukus are handmade in La Cocina’s kitchen and baked with olive oil.
All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
