Ugandan nanny accused of stealing from her employer in Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate, was arraigned on two robbery charges, including theft of gold.

Everline Nabalyo Loice alias Eva appeared before the Makadara Law Courts where she was charged, jointly with another not before court, with violently robbing Hakimo Muhidin Ali of a mobile phone valued at Sh30,000.

Further, the court heard that the accused was armed with an offensive weapon namely a hammer, which she used to hit at her target.

Nabalyo who was arrested at Kariokor in Nairobi while attempting to board a Kampala bound bus, was also charged, with another not before court, of stealing a laptop worth Sh110,000 and 22 grams of gold worth Sh210,000.

These items were properties of Abdirazak Jamaa Ali.

Nabalyo was denied bond following a request by the prosecution, which detailed several grounds to the court, including demonstrating that she is not a Kenyan national and hence a flight risk who has been on the run since she committed the office in November 1, 2024.

Hearing will commence in March 2025.

According to reports filed at Pangani Police Station, Nabalayo was in the house with a colleague housemaid when she intentionally opened the door, admitting an unknown assailant armed with a hammer.

In a shocking turn of events, the duo reportedly assaulted the other maid, leaving her for dead in the bathroom.

They then made off with a haul that included a gold set valued at Sh210,000, a Lenovo XY laptop worth Sh110,000, and an Infinix phone priced at Sh15,000.

After days of manhunt, detectives have finally apprehended Nabalayo at Kariokor while she was attempting to escape on a bus bound for Uganda.

The robbery captured on CCTV happened on November 1 at around 4:40pm when an individual armed with a hammer entered into Ushirika Tower in Eastleigh when the owner, a Somali man  was out with his children, while his wife was reported to be in India for medical treatment.

A Ugandan nanny who has been on the run following her involvement in a daring robbery plot targeting her employer in Nairobi’s Eastleigh was arrested in Nairobi after two months of being on the run.

Nabalayo Everline Loice, 23 was taken into custody by detectives from DCI Starehe after a robbery incident that unfolded on November 1, 2024.

She was detained in police custody for processing, pending arraignment.

The robbery captured on CCTV happened on November 1 at around 4:40pm when an individual armed with a hammer entered into Ushirika Tower in Eastleigh when the owner, a Somali man  was out with his children, while his wife was reported to be in India for medical treatment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that upon entering the apartment, the assailant, who is also believed to be  a Ugandan national, grievously assaulted a 20-year-old Somali house-help named Hakimo Muhidin with assistance from Evelyne.

A video which has since gone viral on social media captured the assailant assaulting  the Somali house-help as her Ugandan counterpart looked on.

The  maid is heard making an alarm for help but no one could come to her rescue.

“Hakimo Muhidin sustained serious injuries, including a broken tooth and injuries to her hand, head, and legs. Additionally, she exhibited signs of having been whipped, with visible marks on her back.”

After receiving medical treatment, she was discharged and is currently recovering at a relative’s home in the Tassia estate area, the police said.

They say the Ugandan maid who had joined the household three weeks earlier escaped alongside the assailant.

Meanwhile, the manhunt for her accomplice, who remains at large, is still in full swing, police said.

A 25-year-old man was Saturday November 9 night shot and killed in a robbery incident in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The family of Abdirahim Abdullahi Ibrahim, 25, said he was meeting his girlfriend on Saturday night in one of the streets in Eastleigh when an unknown assailant approached them and pulled the trigger at point blank.

Security cameras captured the shooting which showed the assailant pulling the trigger at close range.

Abdirahim was shot just below the ear, with the bullet exiting on the other side of the head.

The assailant then made away with his mobile phone, leaving the lady she was meeting stranded at the scene.

According to the family, Abdirahim had been seeing the lady who works in one of the restaurants in Eastleigh as a waitress, and the two had decided to meet on Saturday night when the incident happened.

The motive is yet to be known but police say the target was the deceased.

The lady reported the matter to the Shauri Moyo Police Station.

A postmortem conducted at the City Mortuary with the request of the Shauri Moyo detectives revealed that Abdirahim died due to excessive blood loss following a gunshot wound to the neck.

The deceased was to be buried Sunday at the Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi.

Eastleigh has been in the limelight over fatal incidents.

Police are pursuing suspects linked to a violent robbery at Ushirika Tower estate in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The drama was captured on security camera and later shared online. This drew the attention of police and Kenyans at large who demanded action.

A report was made to Starehe police station prompting an investigation. Inspector General of police Douglas Kanja said they are pursuing leads on the suspects’ whereabouts for justice.

The suspect, captured on CCTV, gained entry into the building using a hammer. Police said the assailant, believed to be a Ugandan national, accessed the sixth floor of an apartment with the assistance of a house help named Everlyne, who is also a Ugandan national.

Upon entering, the assailant grievously assaulted a 20-year-old Somali house-help named Hakimo Muhidin, with assistance from Everlyne.

Investigators said a number of valuable items were stolen during the incident, including gold jewelry, an undisclosed amount of cash in both Kenyan shillings and U.S. dollars, as well as four laptops belonging to the family.

The victim sustained serious injuries, including a broken tooth and trauma to her hand, head, and legs. The DCI further indicated that she showed signs of having been whipped, with visible marks on her back.

After receiving medical treatment, she was discharged and is currently recovering at a relative’s home, traumatized.

Authorities are also searching for the accomplice, who had joined the household just three weeks prior to the incident and managed to escape with the assailant.

At the time of the robbery, the tenant was not at home, as he was out with his children, while his wife was reportedly in India for medical treatment. A team of detectives has been formed to pursue the matter.

Those manning the border region were asked to be vigilant for any such suspects who may try to escape to Uganda.

Police say cases of violent robberies have been on the rise and that some remain unsolved.

A prime suspect believed to be behind the brutal murder of family members – a mother, daughter and 12-year-old niece – was arrested Sunday in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

Hashim Dagane Muhumed has been hiding in Eastleigh for weeks even as detectives extended his search to Somalia and Ethiopia.

Investigations show Hashim Dagane Muhumed is from Ethiopia’s Somalia region and had illegally obtained a Kenyan identification card.

He also served as a regional police officer in Ethiopia before he was arrested and jailed over claims of murder of his wife.

He later fled to Kenya where he set up a base and started a taxi business in Eastleigh and Parklands.

Hashim was wanted for grilling over the murder of Amina Abdirashid, her aunt, Waris Dahabo Daud, and her niece, Nusayba Abdi Mohammed from Eastleigh in Nairobi.

Police believe he knew the slain women and has been involved in extortion business in the city in the past.

After his arrest, he was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters for further identification and grilling, police said they have lined up many charges against him.

Investigations have established that Hashim, 34, was driving the Nissan Note car captured on CCTV cameras picking the victims from their Eastleigh home on October 21, 2024, hours before their bodies were discovered scattered at various locations.

The vehicle was also found abandoned at Wakulima Market near ENA Coach stage and towed to DCI Headquarters for forensic examination, further linking Hashim Dagane to the killings.

Police had appealed for public to help in tracking the suspect. Informers told police he was hold up in Eastleigh until Sunday November 3 when they found him.

He has been placed at the crime scene of a house where the women were brutally murdered.

Hashim is said to have called relatives of the slain women demanding ransom for their release.

Police said preliminary investigations show the three were killed in a dispute over a ransom demand by their abductors.

Another accomplice was arrested over the murder and taken to court where police were allowed to hold him for more days as investigations go on.

Detectives are talking to a woman who claims she was abducted and detained with the three slain women.

The woman alleged she was also abducted by the same killers of the three slain women.

She alleges that she was abducted along with the three victims and was held in the same room where they were locked up for hours.

She told police she heard the killers argue the slain women had identified them which was dangerous and would expose them.

The abductors, according to the woman, demanded a ransom to release them, and her family managed to raise USD7,000 (Sh1 million), which was deposited into an Ethiopian bank account.

The Ethiopian authorities have been contacted for help.

On October 21 Waris Dahabo Daud Said, 38, Amina Abdirashid Dahir, 22 and Nusayba Abdi Mohammed, 12 went missing before their bodies with stab wounds were discovered on October 22, 2024 at around 6 am at different locations.

The bodies of Nusayba, Amina and Dahabo were found at Bahati in Makadara, 6th Avenue Parklands and Khyumbi, in Machakos respectively, with the hands of Dohabo chopped off.

On October 23, two human hands were recovered at South C along Five-Star Road, police said.

A postmortem exercise conducted on the bodies of the women on Friday October 25 show Waris had her neck severed, her hands chopped off and was tortured.

Chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor said Amina Abdirashid Dahir died of a stabbing.

He added Nusayba Abdi Mohammed died out of smothering.

Police are interrogating a woman who claims she was abducted and detained with three women whose bodies were found separately after murder.

On October 21 Dahabo Daud Said, 38, Amina Abdirashid Dahir, 22 and Nusayba Abdi Mohammed,13 went missing before their bodies with stab wounds were discovered on October 22, 2024 at around 6am at different locations.

They had gone missing from their house in Eastleigh Estate, Nairobi. The bodies of Nusayba, Amina and Dahabo were found at Bahati in Makadara, 6th Avenue Parklands and

Khyumbi, in Machakos respectively, with the hands of Dohabo chopped off.

On October 23, two human hands were recovered at South C along Five- Star Road.

The team handling the case said they had interrogated the woman who alleged she was also abducted by the same killers of the three slain women.

She alleges that she was abducted along with the three victims and was held in the same room where they were locked up for hours.

The abductors, according to the woman, demanded a ransom to release them, and her family managed to raise Sh1 million, which was deposited into an Ethiopian bank account.

Her statement is one of the critical leads being investigated in connection to the mysterious killings.

The police are investigating whether she was an accomplice or a victim.

The detectives have recovered a motor vehicle believed to have been used in the abduction and subsequent murder of three family members in Nairobi.

The team is talking to the owner of the car as part of the probe into the saga.

The women went missing before their bodies were found with injuries on the hands, neck and back in Parklands, Bahati and Chumvi in Machakos County.

In the murder saga, police said the salon car was recovered at Ukulima Market in Kamukunji, Nairobi.

Investigators also analyzed the victims’ mobile phones, revealing that on the night of the abduction, the phones were traced within Eastleigh for a period, then moved to General Waruinge, Hombe Road, and one phone was switched off near Pangani.

It is suspected that after the three were killed, the suspect dumped their bodies in different locations. Nuseiba Abdi’s body was left in Bahati, while Amina Abdirashid’s body was dumped in Parklands.

After leaving Parklands, the suspect reportedly picked up another woman along City Road before heading to South C, where they dumped the severed hands of Warris Daud.

The suspect then proceeded to Kyumbi, Machakos County, where the body of Warris Daud was abandoned.

Police are analyzing CCTV footage and payment details from a petrol station where the suspect fuelled the vehicle during this journey.

The drama happened on October 21.

A team of detectives is pursuing the murder and said they are following good leads into the same.

It has emerged that Warris Daud’s husband is in the United Kingdom, living with a second wife.

A section of traders in Eastleigh Thursday protested the murders of the Somali women, closing their shops as a sign of mourning and demanding justice for the victims.

They were addressed by among others Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna and Kamkunji MP Yusuf Hassan.

An autopsy on the three bodies is scheduled for Friday October 25, with burial to follow at Lang’ata Cemetery.

On Thursday, detectives revisited two crime scenes—Parklands and Kyumbi in Machakos County—to reconstruct the events leading to the murders.

The motive behind the murder is yet to be revealed.

The Environment and Land court Tuesday temporarily stopped the renting or leasing out of a property based in Eastleigh area within Nairobi City County.

Lady Justice Anne Omollo however did not halt the ongoing construction, allowing it to proceed, pending the company’s filing of their replying affidavit.

This is after Eastleigh residents moved to court seeking orders restraining Alatop Limited from leasing, subletting or granting access to the general public due to the continued unsafe and unlawful construction activities.

“Orders of interim injunction are issued stopping the defendant from renting out/leasing the suit premises to any person until the application is heard and determined.”

“The construction is not stopped to allow the Defendant to file their replying affidavit,” ruled the court.

According to the residents, the property is being developed in clear disregard of stop-work orders issued by National Construction Authority (NCA) and Nairobi City County Planning Compliance & Enforcement

The Eastleigh Leaders Forum through their lawyer Swaleh Yusuf, argued that the NCA had flagged the site for its failure to observe basic safety protocols, after two workers fell to their deaths earlier in the year.

The company however, continued construction without regard for the orders leading to the death of three more workers on-site, bringing the total death toll to five.

Yusuf alleges that the most recent victim was Julius Wekesa Wanyonyi, a worker who fell from the second floor of the building due to lack of safety nets in place, a standard safety measure on construction sites.

“On February 22, 2023 the 3rd Interested Party herein issued an enforcement notice against the Defendant/Respondent herein requiring it to stop any further constructions on all that property known as LR. No. 36/11/15 located in Eastleigh within Nairobi City County, hereafter ‘the suit property, and to avail copies of the approved plans of the building from the National Construction Authority,” read court documents.

It Is the residents’ case that the building is being constructed dangerously close to power lines and in violation of planning regulations, with no apparent efforts to ensure worker or public safety.

“This construction is not only endangering the workers but also the entire community around the site,” argued the residents.

Despite multiple reports made to the police and appeals to the relevant authorities they argue, no concrete action has been taken to enforce the stop-work orders.

The judge ordered the respondents and interested parties to file their respective replying affidavits within 10 days from October 15.

Once the affidavits are filed and served, the applicant has been given a further 10-day window to submit any additional affidavits along with skeleton submissions.

In response, the respondent and Interested Parties will also have 10 days, following receipt of the applicant’s submissions, to file their own skeleton submissions.

The court scheduled the submissions to be highlighted on November 20.

In the suit the National Construction Authority, the National Environment and Management Authority and the director Nairobi City County Planning Compliance and Enforcement have been listed as the interested parties.

Three suspects linked to a daylight robbery and shooting in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area were found dead.

The shooting and robbery took place March 30 and about Sh3.9 million was stolen.

A victim of the robbery is still in hospital with a spinal injury.

The bodies of Fredrick Kopo, Jaylen Kibe and one woman only identified as Esther were found at the City Mortuary on Sunday.

They were booked as victims of drowning and their bodies recovered from a river in Lari, Kiambu County.

Kopo who is also known as Baba Shania alias Frik was from Huruma, Kiamaiko.

Kibe was buried at the Kariokor cemetery on Tuesday April 9, according to his family.

He was a Muslim.

The body of Kopo was badly injured with one eye missing and a broken leg.

He had also, together with Kibe been traced to Mombasa after the robbery and arrested. It is not clear at what point he was released.

He had run to Mombasa to purchase a car after the robbery, those close to him say.

He had also been placed at the scene of the shooting and is the one who pulled the trigger seriously injuring Adan Ali Mohamed in the neck.

His accomplice too was located in Mombasa where he was traced to.

He was in the company of a woman who is only identified as Esther.

Police did not respond to the news of the bodies in mortuary.

The families of Kopo and Esther refused to disclose much on them. They are meeting in Huruma to plan for their burial.

A team of detectives had been sent to pursue the gang that shot and seriously wounded a 26 year old man during a robbery mission of $30,000 (Sh3,969,726).

The gang was riding on a motorbike when they struck hitting Adan who was also on another motorcycle headed to the same direction on Eastleigh’s Muratina Street.

Police said the incident happened Saturday March 30 at 11 am at the crowded place.

The incident was captured on security cameras.

The rider carrying the gunman had sped and overtook the one with Adan and stopped before he jumped off and approached the victim.

He was seen demanding a bag carrying the cash and when Adan hesitated, he was shot at close range in the neck.

Doctors said the bullet injured the spinal cord and exited at the back.

He fell off the motorcycle as his rider remained confused.

The gunman grabbed the cash and jumped onto his waiting motorcycle and drove away.
Adan said had intended to deposit the money at one of the banks at BBS Mall.

However, upon arrival, he discovered that the bank was closed when he decided to return home, opting to ride a bodaboda for convenience.

He did not know he was being pursued by the thugs who had prior information on the cash.

The cash was from two days sales of oil products his boss handles in the area.

As the rider reached the Bulsho car wash on Muratina Street, another bodaboda rider intercepted him. The perpetrator immediately grabbed the cash, wrapped it in green paper, and fled the scene.

Witnesses rushed Adan to the nearby Health Gate Hospital where he was admitted.

Police are also investigating to know if the incident was an inside job.

They will review the people who had interacted with the victim and all those around him.
