Civil servants caught having sex in their offices will face “severe measures”, the vice-president of Equatorial Guinea has warned after hundreds of allegedly pornographic videos were leaked to the public.

The videos reportedly involve high-ranking civil servant Baltasar Ebang Engonga having sex with various women – including the wives of prominent officials – in his office.

Mr Engonga is head of the country’s National Financial Investigation Agency and also a relative of the country’s president.

On his Facebook page, Mr Engonga has posted that he is feeling sad, along with a photo of him with a woman and children captioned: “Family is everything”.

Vice-President Teodoro Obiang Mangue said any officials found engaging in sex acts at work would be suspended as this was a “flagrant violation of the code of conduct”.

He has also ordered the installation of surveillance cameras in courts and ministries to combat “indecent and illicit acts”.

A statement from the vice-president’s office said the decision had been taken in the wake of the widely circulated videos which had “denigrated the image of the country”.

It added that he had recommended opening an investigation.

The videos in question were leaked after Mr Engonga was arrested on separate corruption charges, state television TVGE said.

Last week, Vice-President Obiang said “pornographic videos” had been “flooding” social media and ordered telecoms companies to curb the spread.

Since then, the flow of internet traffic – particularly the downloading of images – has been severely disrupted in the country, people in Equatorial Guinea told the AFP news agency.

As head of the National Financial Investigation Agency, Mr Engonga works on tackling financial crimes such as money laundering.

Following the furore over the videos, Equatorial Guinea’s chief prosecutor Anatolio Nzang Nguema told state TV that if Mr Engonga was found to have been “infected with a sexually transmitted disease” he would be prosecuted for an offence against “public health”.

He is reportedly nicknamed “Bello” – Spanish for beautiful – on account of his good looks.

Guinea secured a spot in the quarterfinals with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in a dramatic conclusion to their Africa Cup of Nations encounter at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium on Sunday. The decisive moment came in the eighth minute of stoppage time when Mohamed Bayo’s skillful glancing header found the net, concluding Equatorial Guinea’s impressive run in the tournament.

Despite being down to 10 men in the second half, Equatorial Guinea had a chance to take the lead when awarded a penalty. However, Emilio Nsue, the tournament’s top scorer, struck the ball against the upright, denying his team the advantage.

Guinea, determined to break their streak of losses in the AFCON knockout stages, introduced Bundesliga-based players Naby Keita and Serhou Guirassy to bolster their attack. The turning point came in the 55th minute when Equatorial Guinea’s Federico Bikoro was sent off, giving Guinea a numerical advantage. Despite this, Equatorial Guinea failed to capitalize on a penalty opportunity shortly thereafter.

Having secured their place in the quarterfinals, Guinea now awaits the winner of the match between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Egypt in San Pedro. This thrilling encounter showcased Guinea’s resilience and strategic play, setting the stage for an exciting continuation in the tournament.

Ivory Coast’s hopes in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are hanging in the balance as they suffered a second consecutive Group A defeat, this time a 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea in Abidjan. The Ivorian team, Les ÉlĂ©phants, now face an uncertain future, anxiously awaiting their fate as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Following a disappointing loss to Nigeria, Les ÉlĂ©phants sought redemption against Equatorial Guinea. Despite dominating early territory and creating numerous opportunities, they struggled to break through until the 30th minute when Christian KouamĂ© set up Nicolas PĂ©pĂ©, who was thwarted by Equatorial Guinea’s goalkeeper JesĂşs Owono.

The Ivorians’ offensive shortcomings proved costly, with Equatorial Guinea taking the lead in the 42nd minute. Carlos Akapo drove into the area, delivering a low pass to Emilio Nsue, who capitalized on his earlier hat-trick against Guinea-Bissau, leaving the Ivorian crowd stunned.

Just before halftime, Ivory Coast believed they had equalized, but Ibrahim SangarĂ©’s goal was disallowed for offside. The second half saw a determined Ivory Coast side attempting to level the score, but SangarĂ© missed a golden opportunity from close range. Their misfortunes continued as VAR ruled out a goal by Jean-Philippe Krasso for offside.

Equatorial Guinea capitalized on Ivory Coast’s vulnerabilities, extending their lead with a spectacular 25-yard free-kick from Pablo Ganet. As Ivory Coast threw bodies forward in desperation, they were caught on the counter-attack, allowing JosĂ© MachĂn to set up Nsue for his fifth tournament goal. The misery deepened for Ivory Coast as Equatorial Guinea secured a convincing 4-0 victory with Jannick Buyla’s rebound.

Although Nigeria’s win over Guinea-Bissau secured third place for Ivory Coast, their chances of progressing remain slim with three points and a minus three goal difference. Jean-Louis Gasset’s team now faces an uphill battle, needing a series of miraculous outcomes to advance in the tournament.

Equatorial Guinea will not renew contract of former Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Mignè when it expires end of this month.

Former Harambee Stars coach Sebastian Migne is set to go for August holidays without a job.

The former Kenya coach has already been linked with the coaching position with the Central Africa Republic national team.

The Equatorial Guinea FA released a statement suggesting that it has decided against retaining the services of Migne.

“Sébastien Migné will leave his position as national coach in July. Thanks for everything! #nzalangnacional,” reads a short note posted on federation’s Instagram page.

The 46-year-old, who took over the reins on 8 November 2019, failed to win his first two 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers losing to Tanzania and Tunisia.

There were other issues that made his stay no longer welcome, forcing the federation to invoke a clause in his contract which stated that any party was free to terminate the deal at any time.

Migne’s past job with Kenya ended by mutual consent in August last year after a year in charge during which time he led the Harambee Stars to their first Nations Cup in 15 years.

His tenure ended when Kenya were eliminated from qualifying for the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as they lost to neighbours Tanzania on penalties in the tournament for locally-based players.

Migne has also coached Congo Brazzaville and worked with Claude Le Roy in Oman, Syria and DR Congo.
