Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has unveiled 1,000 job openings for drivers in Saudi Arabia, offering an average monthly salary of Ksh50,000.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, Mutua announced that interviews for the positions will commence on Thursday, December 19, at Lang’ata National Polytechnic.

“A reputable Saudi company is urgently seeking drivers for small vehicles, buses, and trucks. Interviews begin tomorrow at Lang’ata National Polytechnic and will also take place in Nyeri and Mombasa,” Mutua stated.

The recruitment exercise will start at Lang’ata National Polytechnic on December 18 and 19, 2024, and continue at Kabete National Polytechnic on the same dates from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

It will then proceed to Nyeri National Polytechnic on December 20 and 21, and finally to Kenya Coast National Polytechnic on December 23 and 24, 2024.

Candidates are required to bring their original driving licenses, certificates, and a Ksh15,000 medical fee. Successful applicants will travel to Saudi Arabia immediately after completing medical clearance.

“This is your chance to secure a job and better your future. Prepare in advance and, if possible, have the medical fee ready,” Mutua advised, adding that the positions come with benefits such as free accommodation, transport, food, and medical care.

The Coast Water Works Development Agency (CWWDA) has announced a vacancy for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at its headquarters in Mombasa.

In an advertisement published on MyGov on Tuesday, CWWDA stated that it is accepting applications both manually and online.

“The Agency wishes to recruit a self-driven and result-oriented Kenyan to fill a vacancy in the Office of the Chief Executive Officer at its Headquarters in Mombasa to facilitate delivery of its mandate,” the notice read.

Interested applicants can find detailed job descriptions and application requirements on the agency’s official website, www.cwwda.go.ke.

Qualified candidates are required to download and fill out the CWWDA Application for Employment Form and Curriculum Vitae (CV) template available on the website.

Applications must include certified copies of academic and professional certificates as well as a national identity card.

The deadline for submission is Tuesday, January 7, 2025, by close of business.

Applications should be clearly marked ‘Application for the position of Chief Executive Officer’.

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has announced more than 30 job vacancies, inviting applications from qualified and motivated individuals.

In a notice published in MyGov, HELB expressed its commitment to recruiting transformative, competent, and self-driven professionals to join its team.

The available positions include one Director of Operations, six Deputy Directors across various departments, and eight Assistant Directors. Additional roles include Principal Officer (Legal Services), Principal Customer Experience Officer (Digital and Creative Services), Senior Customer Experience Officer (Digital and Creative Services), and an Internal Audit Officer.

HELB is also hiring two drivers and 11 Assistant Customer Experience Officers.

“The successful candidates will join a highly performing team and must not only be passionate, innovative, and qualified but also dependable, emotionally intelligent, and possess effective interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills,” the announcement stated.

Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced that 600 boda boda riders will be hired for jobs in Dubai, while 500 nannies will be employed in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement issued on December 5, the CS revealed that officials from a United Arab Emirates company will be in Kenya next week to interview and recruit the motorcycle riders.

“Bodaboda riders are highly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will undergo four months of training in Dubai, during which the company will assist them in obtaining UAE riding licenses,” said Mutua in his statement.

The selected riders will earn a salary of 2,925 dirhams (approximately Ksh. 104,000) for working 26 days a month, tax-free.

Candidates will need to have a valid Kenyan passport or proof of an eCitizen application, a Certificate of Good Conduct, and a valid rider’s license. While prior experience is not mandatory, it will be considered an advantage.

“For every delivery trip, riders will be earning 7.5 dirhams (Ksh. 263), having a daily minimum average of 15 trips. However, riders with initiative can make upwards of 30 deliveries per day, increasing their earnings,” the notice indicated.

The company will provide free accommodation, a work motorcycle with maintenance, medical care, and a work visa. However, pre-arrival costs, including a payment to the HR provider in Dubai, airfare, medical fees, and processing fees, will not be covered by the company.

These costs amount to approximately Ksh. 167,900. Banks are expected to offer loans to cover these expenses, with repayments due after the riders begin working in Dubai.

“The medical fee is paid first, and the remaining costs can be settled after passing the medicals. This ensures no unnecessary losses,” added the notice.

Interviews will be conducted in Nairobi and Malindi.

In Nairobi, they will take place from December 9 to 11 at Kamukunji TVC, while in Malindi, interviews will be held on December 13 and 14 at Kilifi North TVC. Ministry of Labour officials will be present to ensure that the recruitment process is ethical.

“Successful applicants must be ready to travel to Dubai before the end of the year. I encourage all hustlers, especially bodaboda riders, to seize this opportunity and try their luck,” stated Mutua.

In addition to the Dubai job opportunity, Mutua also announced that 500 nannies are being sought for employment in Saudi Arabia.

Applicants for these positions must have at least one year of childcare experience and any type of certificate or diploma.

Female candidates are preferred, and duties will include caring for children, helping with homework, and assisting with mobility, feeding, and bathing.

“A Saudi Arabian Human Resource team is currently in Kenya seeking to employ 500 Nannies for their company,” Mutua added.

The successful nannies will earn between 1,200 to 1,500 Riyals (approximately Sh41,000 to Sh52,000) per month, tax-free. The package also includes free accommodation, meals, transport, and medical care.

If nannies are dissatisfied with their assigned families, they will be reassigned. A medical fee of Sh13,500 is required, but the company will cover all other pre-arrival costs, including visas and airfare.

“The duties are child-focused only; no housemaid responsibilities,” the notice clarified.

The interviews for the nanny positions will take place on December 6 at The Nairobi National Polytechnic. Successful applicants for both positions should be prepared to travel before the end of the year or early next year.

The government has announced a nationwide recruitment drive for overseas job opportunities starting Wednesday, November 20.

Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua revealed that the exercise will kick off at the Machakos Training Institute for the Blind and aims to connect Kenyans with employment opportunities abroad.

Speaking during a press briefing in Kisumu, Dr. Mutua said the initiative follows the successful conclusion of a recent recruitment for jobs in Qatar. During the first phase, 3,247 Kenyans were selected out of 8,000 available positions, with nearly 1,500 already receiving offer letters and preparing to travel.

“We expect all those recruited to depart within the next few weeks to begin their careers,” Mutua stated.

The Qatari company behind the openings is expected to return to Kenya to finalize hiring for the remaining 5,000 positions allocated to the country.

To ensure accessibility, the government will collaborate with stakeholders such as the National Employment Authority (NEA), the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), and licensed recruitment agencies. Recruitment will take place at county headquarters and TVET institutions.

The Ministry of Labour has announced new international job openings for Kenyans.

A Qatari company, in collaboration with the ministry, is offering positions.

Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua revealed that the Qatari company is seeking workers in two categories: Hospitality & Service Industry and Construction & Technical Roles.

“A Qatari company, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, is in Nairobi conducting interviews for various job opportunities over the next two days,” Mutua said.

The company is seeking to employ nurses, commis, demi chefs, chef de partie, kitchen helpers, barbacks, runners, waitresses, and steward supervisors in the Hospitality and Service Industry.

The company also wants kids attendants, hotel maintenance technicians, light vehicle drivers, and heavy vehicle drivers in the same category.

In Construction & technical roles, the company is seeking rigger signalmen, construction helpers, cleaners, storekeepers, electricians, plumbers, masons, tile layers, steel fixers, painters, welders, and scaffolders.

The interviews will be held from October 25 to Sunday, October 27, starting at 7:30 am.

For Hospitality & Service Industry roles, interviews will take place at KICC, while Construction & Technical Roles will be conducted at Kabete National Polytechnic. Practical tests will also be part of the interview process.

Interested candidates are required to wear black and white or overalls (where applicable) and should carry their CVs and passport-size photos.

“Please ensure you are familiar with your industry and job duties. Only candidates for the listed job openings will be allowed entry,” Mutua emphasized.

Once hired, successful candidates will receive guidelines on medical and visa processing. The air ticket and other travel arrangements will be provided free of charge.

The KCB Foundation has announced new Vocational Training scholarships for 2024, focusing on courses in Hospitality and Digital Media.

This initiative is in partnership with Boma International Hospitality College and Switch TV.

Courses Offered

  • Food and Beverage Service
  • Mixology and Bar Operations
  • Front Desk Techniques
  • Barista Techniques
  • Housekeeping and Laundry Techniques
  • Food Production Techniques
  • Digital Media

“These scholarships will be available at Boma International Hospitality College (BIHC) through a six-month Dual Vocational Apprenticeship program. This program comprises 30% technical training and 70% industrial placement at selected hotels in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Machakos, and Nyeri,” the statement reads.

Interested candidates have until July 12 to submit their applications.

To qualify for the Dual Vocational Apprenticeship program scholarship, applicants should:

  • Have a National ID
  • Be able to read and write both English and Kiswahili
  • Commit to attending all training sessions
  • Fit within one of the following categories: skilled worker, business owner, or apprentice

During the interview, candidates must present:

  • Completed application forms with a passport-sized photo attached
  • Copies of their National Identity card
  • Certificate of their highest academic qualification
  • Originals of the above documents (failure to produce these will lead to automatic disqualification)

Interviews will be conducted from 8:30 am to 4 pm in various regions:

  • Nairobi: July 15 and 16 at Boma International Hospitality College-South C
  • Mombasa: July 15 and 16 at Kenya Red Cross
  • Machakos: July 16 at Kenya Red Cross Branch
  • Nyeri: July 16 at Kenya Red Cross Branch
  • Nakuru: July 16 and 17 at Kenya Red Cross Branch

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has promoted 39 judicial officers to enhance the clearance of case backlogs.

The 39 were promoted after successful interviews and commissions’ meetings between 14 and 26 March, this year.

“The promotions will enhance the pecuniary jurisdiction of the magistrates and as a result facilitate clearance of case backlog and improve access to justice,” the commission said.

The career progression of the officers is also intended to motivate the workforce.

Four principal magistrates including Mwangi Agnes Wahito, Lesootia Albert Saitabau, Matsigulu Edgar Kagoni, and Makau Agnes Ndunge were promoted to the rank of senior principal magistrate.

The commission also promoted 11 senior resident magistrates to principal magistrate.

Additionally, 24 senior principal magistrates were promoted to chief magistrate.

JSC also created the position of Registrar, Automation within the Registrars’ establishment in the commission.

Elizabeth Tanui was appointed to run the new position on 26 March 2024.

“The Commission congratulates the successful candidates and wishes them well as they serve Kenyans in the new capacity,” the commission stated.
