Speaking in Suneka Tuesday, Arati accused James Ongwae of fighting proxy wars against him when he himself had failed as a governor.

“There was garbage everywhere, sleaze in every corner of the County when i came to office. These are the same people loitering around lecturing me and calling me an excrement. They are the very human waste they are abusing me around,” retorted Arati.

The County boss spoke while visiting Suneka market, a project that had remained stalled for years.

The Governor also inaugurated Motonto Market which has been under construction from the National Government.

The project visits have come hours away to meet two Senatorial committee – County Public Accounts Committee and the Devolution Committees for separate grillings over expenditure.

Arati had lately been a punching bag of growing critics, many now describing him as a flop.

A fortnight ago, the Senate Devolution Committee had called him asked him to explain the dismal absorptions of development funds by the administration.

He was to meet the committee Wednesday.

At home, the Governor continues to face mounting criticism from Senator Richard Onyonka, Woman Rep Donya Toto and lately Ongwae.

The three have since unveiled former Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital executive Dr Enoch Ondari to face Arati in the 2027 poll.

Arati has since dismissed the alliance saying it consists of a bunch of those who had angling to eat from County coffers.

On Tuesday, Arati maintained no cent would be frittered away to satiate anybody’s greed including them.

“I have fought hard fight to clean the mess but even as i do this i have heard whispers that I loosen the purse for some people to eat. There shall be no eating under my watch,” the combative governor said.

Arati said he was more intentional in making service more felt, fixing roads and constructing more ecde classes.

Wambora was battling it out with Kitui’s Charity Ngilu and Dhadho Godhana of Tana River.

In an election that was this morning held at the Movenpick Hotel, Nairobi, Wambora will be deputised by James Ongwae of Kisii county.

Wambora takes over from Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya who has served his maximum two terms.

Ongwae replaces Murang’a’s Mwangi wa Iria who is keen on running for the presidency come 2022.

County bosses serving their second terms in office opted out of the elections with some setting their sights on the presidency.

They include; Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Ali Roba (Mandera), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), and Salim Mvurya (Kwale).

“I will not be a candidate for CoG elections. As a 2022 presidential candidate, I have been advised by my team that serving in the next CoG executive can constitute a conflict of interest,” said Kibwana.

Since 2013, two Jubilee governors Isaac Ruto and Peter Munya have chaired CoG as well as two ODM members, Josphat Nanok (Turkana) and Oparanya.

A statement from the Office of the President indicated that Gusii leaders met and unanimously agreed to have the two lead the plans.

“They resolved to form an Ad-hoc Committee that will steer the programme in liaison with his family,” the statement read.

Senator Okong’o O’Mogeni and North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko will be vice chairpersons while Nyamira County Women Rep Jerusha Momanyi will serve as the Treasurer.

Victor Okioma (Chairperson of the National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse) will be the Secretary and Maj. Jeremiah Nyakundi (Legal Advisor in the Ministry of Interior) will be his assistant.

Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto will oversee the mobilisation and coordination of professionals and scholars from Gusii community.

The team will communicate the date of burial in due time.

Nyagarama succumbed to Covid-19 complications while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital on Friday morning.

He had been at the health facility for a period of three weeks.

Earlier this week reports emerged that the deceased had been placed on life support after his health deteriorated.

The fire engine, a Twitter user identified as Fred Sambu said was without a registration number, adding that despite being parked in Mavoko, it was clamped by Nairobi County askaris.

“Why are your officers clamping (clamp no.NCC 936/16) a plateless kisii county Fire engine that was parked at Mavoko (sic)?” he posed a question to governor Mike Sonko.

Again on Tuesday, Mr Sambu noted that Kisii governor James Ongwae had launched new fire engines the previous day while the fire engine in question was still abandoned at Great Wall Garden apartments, near Athi River, and right opposite London distillers Limited.

The Kisii county fire department has not been without drama. Take for example, a fire engine was in 2017 repossessed by a Thika based firm due to failed payments.

According to Kisii County Disaster Recovery Department Director Julius Tinega, the national government was to blame for incapacitating the department.

“We are yet to receive the funds for the purchase of a fire engine despite having submitted a proposal. Treasury was supposed to disburse the monies in the 2016/17 financial year but is yet to do so,” said Mr Tinega.
