Intern Spotlight: Chloe Cabon

December 23, 2021

CUESA relies on our dedicated interns and volunteers to help with our education programs, farmers markets, and other activities that help fulfill our mission to grow thriving communities through the power and joy of local food. Learn more about internships here and volunteer opportunities here. You can also sign up for our next volunteer orientation on January 12, 2022, here.

This December, CUESA’s Foodwise Kids program wrapped up its first full semester since the start of the pandemic. Referred by San Francisco State University’s Environmental Studies program, Foodwise Kids intern Chloe Cabon supported our Foodwise Kids team to host a combination of Ferry Plaza Farmers Market field trips,  on-site school cooking classes, and virtual classes. In total, Foodwise Kids served 58 classes this fall, including 25 in-market lessons, 8 cooking classes, and 26 virtual classes. A whopping total of 900 students were served since September!

We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of volunteers and interns like Chloe. “Chloe has been such a phenomenal intern and an absolute joy to work with this past semester,” says Tiffany Chung, Foodwise Kids Education Manager. “She approached students with curiosity, kindness, and was always ready to take on their silliest questions. She helped us pilot our latest program initiative—bringing cooking lessons into our students’ classrooms! Chloe went above and beyond, and it was wonderful to see her personal teaching style and confidence grow as an educator.” Meet Chloe.

CUESA: Where does your interest in food come from?

Chloe: Growing up, my family would always cook together and that sparked my initial interest. These days, I love to experiment in the kitchen, especially with vegan cooking and all kinds of baking.

CUESA: What do you do when you aren’t interning for CUESA?

Chloe: When I’m not interning, you can find me cross stitching, finding new shows or movies to watch, and spending as much time as I can outside.

CUESA: Why are you choosing to volunteer with us at this time?

Chloe: As a environmental studies major and special education minor, the internship with Foodwise Kids was a perfect match for me. I love that I was able to find something at the intersection of two topics that I am passionate about.

CUESA: What does the farmers market community mean to you?

Chloe: Small-scale sustainable and community-based agriculture is something I think is incredibly important. I love to know where my food comes from and the great people that make my meals possible.

CUESA: Any favorite farmers market foods or home meal prep tips you want to share?

Chloe: Some of my favorite things to eat at the farmers market include stone fruit from K & J Orchards, the jalapeno hummus from Hummus Heaven, and the quesadillas from Mi Comedor.
